Today, we spotlight a significant development that marks a new chapter for the franchise: the announcement of a Doctor Who animated adventure series set to premiere on CBeebies in 2026.

BBC Children’s and Education has unveiled a first look at Doctor Who: TARDIS Crew, a brand-new animated preschool series that introduces younger audiences to the wonder, adventure and endless possibilities of the Whoniverse.

This new series, aimed at pre-school children, will introduce the Doctor and their companions solving mysteries and overcoming challenges in a format tailored for younger audiences.

This move by the BBC not only broadens the show’s demographic reach but also underscores the enduring appeal and adaptability of Doctor Who.

The decision to bring the Doctor’s adventures to CBeebies reflects a strategic effort to cultivate a new generation of fans by making the Whoniverse accessible and engaging for children.

It also highlights the franchise’s commitment to innovation while maintaining the core values of curiosity, bravery, and friendship that have defined the show for over six decades.

As the main Doctor Who series continues to evolve, this animated spin-off represents a fresh and exciting direction. It promises to complement the existing live-action narratives by expanding the storytelling canvas and exploring new creative possibilities.

Across 52 eleven-minute episodes, families will join the TARDIS Crew on unforgettable journeys where friendship, teamwork and quick thinking can change everything. Blending the wonder and excitement of Doctor Who with the trusted storytelling and learning through play values of CBeebies, the series is set to introduce a whole new generation to one of the world’s most iconic brands.

Produced by Blue Zoo Animation Studio, the series is currently in production, with Dominic Minns serving as Series Director. Minns previously directed acclaimed CBeebies series including Mojo Swoptops and Supertato.

BBC Studios handles global sales for Doctor Who: TARDIS Crew as well as licensing, consumer products, digital and immersive experiences on behalf of the BBC.

Doctor Who: TARDIS Crew will arrive on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer in late 2027/early 2028.
